In the past, the Internet and exhibitions (forums) have been the two main positions for promoting electronic cigarettes in the domestic market. However, since the introduction of the new “internet disconnection” regulations in 2019, offline exhibitions (forums) have become the only way of promotion.

After more than two years, the “Measures for the Administration of Electronic Cigarettes” was officially promulgated on March 11 this year, which clearly stipulated that “the supervision and management of electronic cigarette advertisements shall be governed by relevant laws, regulations and rules on tobacco advertisements. It is prohibited to hold various forms of promotion. Exhibitions, forums, expositions, etc. of electronic cigarette products.

According to the interpretation of the new regulations, starting from the “May 1st Labor Day” this year, various domestic exhibitions, forums and expositions on the promotion of electronic cigarette products will withdraw from the historical stage. Poured a bowl of cold water.

 At the same time, after the implementation of the new regulations, the impact on these exhibition companies involved in the e-cigarette business is not too big, or they may  face project cancellation, personnel reorganization, and even layoffs. As of March this year, there are mainly about four or five companies that have held electronic cigarette and other electronic atomization products exhibitions in China, including UBM Creative Exhibition, Reed Exhibitions Huabo, Aibang Electronics, Yingrun International, Guoshang Jiamei Exhibition, etc. Among them, the IECIE electronic cigarette exhibition project under UBM Creative Exhibition is represented. Since 2014, the electronic cigarette exhibition has been held, and it has the largest scale, popularity and influence in the entire electronic cigarette industry at home and abroad.

 Of course, the new regulations do not explicitly prohibit the holding of live broadcasts, salons, exchange meetings, forums, summits, etc. with topics such as industry policies, technological changes, market trends, and industrial development, such as policy publicity and implementation meetings held from time to time by the Electronic Cigarette Industry Committee and the annual industry international forum summit.

 In addition, it should be noted that the regulations on exhibitions, forums and expositions in the “Measures for the Administration of Electronic Cigarettes” can only be aimed at domestic and foreign exhibitions that promote new tobacco products such as electronic cigarettes. Domestic companies that are in overseas markets can still freely decide to participate in the exhibition.
