As the harm reduction of e-cigarettes has been confirmed and recognized by more studies, a well-known Australian doctor recently stated that switching from smoking to e-cigarettes is the most effective way to quit smoking. At the same time, the US Surgeon General launched an initiative to reduce health misinformation. Many universities in the United States jointly wrote a paper asking the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) to redefine e-cigarettes and reduce media and public misunderstandings about e-cigarettes. know.

Recently, Dr. Colin Mendelsohn, a well-known Australian general practitioner and anti-smoking researcher, reiterated the effectiveness of e-cigarettes for smoking cessation. As a staunch quitter, Dr. Colin even wrote a book to recommend smoking cessation methods to smokers. In the book Stop Smoking Start Vaping: The Healthy Truth About Vaping, Dr. Colin mentioned that the risk of cancer from smoking is 200 times greater than the risk of cancer from using e-cigarettes. In addition, in his latest article, through data analysis, Dr. Colin found that in countries that support e-cigarettes, the smoking cessation rate increased by 2 to 3 times, and the number of smokers was greatly reduced.

Dr Colin believes Cancer Australia needs to reassess their position and include e-cigarettes in all smoking cessation treatments, as has been done by health organizations in the UK and New Zealand.

The current public concern about e-cigarettes stems from some false propaganda by the media and health organizations. Recently, an editorial article jointly published by Harvard University, Georgetown University, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Pennsylvania State University, etc. United States Public Health Officials Need To Correct E-cigarette Health Misinformation points out that the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) can distinguish vaping forms containing only nicotine from those containing THC by issuing a new definition of e-cigarettes , because only the latter can lead to lung injury associated with vaping or product use.

Article explains why vaping is known as the source of EVALI disease. EVALI is a lung disease that caused severe illness and premature death in multiple people in North America in 2019-2020. It was originally labeled “Vaping-Associated Pulmonary Disease” (VAPI), but “vaping” was later added to the title by the CDC and was never revised. This further impacts news coverage and leads to distorted consumer perceptions of the risks of nicotine vaping.

Professional organizations lack a rigorous definition of e-cigarette naming, and under some unclear guidelines, the public is confused about its risks. Therefore, the article recommends that CDC and public health officials re-define e-cigarettes, and admit that due to lack of Reasonable causality, as well as false propaganda caused by insufficient evidence, can contribute to the long-term development of public health.
